Reference Standards, Checked on Schedule
Granite surface plates, gauge blocks, and ring and plug gauges are the reference standards other inspection depends on. Calibration confirms flatness, size and form are still within tolerance for the grade stamped on the piece.
A plate or block found out of grade is reported with its measured deviation; the certificate carries that figure rather than a pass or fail mark alone.

What Is Calibrated
Each gage type is checked against the method and tolerance grade published for that instrument class under ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
- 01
Granite surface plates
Flatness mapped across the grid pattern specified for the plate's size and grade.
- 02
Gauge blocks
Length and flatness verified by comparison against reference blocks of higher grade.
- 03
Ring gauges
Internal diameter checked against go/no-go limits for the stated tolerance class.
- 04
Plug gauges
Diameter and form checked at multiple positions along the gauging length.
Calibration Steps
- 01
Receipt and inspection
Each gage is inspected for damage or wear before testing begins.
- 02
Measurement
Readings are taken against traceable reference standards under controlled conditions.
- 03
Deviation reporting
Measured values and deviation from nominal are recorded, not just a pass or fail result.
- 04
Certificate issued
Reference standards and reported uncertainty are stated on the certificate.

Why Memphis CMM Calibration and Repair
- 01
Deviation, not just pass/fail
Measured values are reported so trending and regrading decisions can be made.
- 02
Full gage range
Plates, blocks, rings and plugs are handled under one request, replacing separate vendors.
- 03
Grade-matched method
Method and tolerance applied match the grade stamped on the gage, not a default standard.
