FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Procurement and quality questions, answered the way a supplier questionnaire asks them.
Common Questions
If a question below is not covered, it can be answered directly — see the contact page.
What standard is CMM calibration performed under?
Calibration is performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by accredited partner laboratories. Certificates report the reference standards used and the measurement uncertainty for each axis and parameter checked.
Does an on-site visit replace shipping for CMM calibration?
Bridge and gantry machines are typically calibrated on-site because of their size and foundation requirements. Portable arms and smaller fixed machines can sometimes be removed to a laboratory.
What happens if a CMM fails calibration?
Out-of-tolerance axes and parameters are documented on the as-found report before any adjustment. The decision to proceed with repair rests with the owner, and a separate quotation is issued for it.
What information is needed to quote a CMM repair?
Make, model, controller type and a description of the fault symptoms are needed to scope a repair. Photographs of damage or error messages speed up the quotation.
Are part programs rebuilt from scratch or revised?
A program built on a compatible controller and software version is usually revised instead of rebuilt. Programs tied to obsolete software may require a new build from the print and CAD model.
What tolerance classes are supported for gauge blocks?
Blocks are checked against the grade stamped on the set, from working grades through calibration-grade references. Deviation from nominal is reported on the certificate, not only a pass or fail result.
How is measurement traceability documented?
Measurements are traceable to the SI through NIST. Certificates state the reference standards used and the reported measurement uncertainty for each calibrated parameter.
Will an item be serviced without a prior quotation?
No. Scheduling, booking-in and shipment all follow acceptance of a written quotation. Unscheduled equipment arriving without an accepted quotation will be held pending one.
Can surface plates be calibrated in place?
Large granite surface plates are typically calibrated at the installed location instead of being moved. Flatness is mapped across the grid pattern specified for the plate's size and grade.
